As to the question of interferon vs. verapamil, both agents have been shown to be beneficial in multiple published trials. The preference of this reviewer is to use verapamil, as it is less expensive, has a very low side effect profile, and has had several more published studies showing benefit. Interferon is the only injectable drug to date which has been shown in a placebo-controlled trial to have benefit, but the level of this benefit with respect to curvature reduction was less than what has been reported with verapamil.
